Chanukah is a unique holiday on the Hebrew calendar. It's the only festival that includes a new moon. Rosh Hashanah is on the first appearance of the waxing moon, but Chanukah goes from a few days before the new moon to a few days after. So it links the Samech lunar cycle to the Ayin cycle. This is always the last new moon before the solstice, so it is the darkest time in the year, both solar, as the cycle is still descending, and lunar, at the new moon. It is associated with giving gold, so I wanted to give gold.
At the point of maximum darkness is when the seeds of light are sewn. I was led to the writings of Neville Goddard. His teachings about Jesus as the power of imagination opened my understanding to the true meaning of chochmah on the tree of life. Chochmah, by the way,has the same letters as chanukah, only the mem is switched for a nun, so where chochmah is a the water, chanukah is the fish, and since the right column is fire, where chochmah is the flame, Chanukah is the spark. Chochmah is usually taught as the eureka moment, that spark of inspiration, but how often does true inspiration happen? Why would one of the fundamental forces be one that is not a constant effect on the psyche? But chochmah as the power of imagination, it is the inspiration, and it is a constant component of the psyche that we are always experiencing. We always imagining the world.
The Chanukah lights are the seeds of intention for the whole next solar cycle, planted in times of maximum darkness, as this is the darkness is fertile, and more darkness means more fertility. So lit candles are extra powerful now because of the darkness. The time of lighting the lights is twilight, in between days (Hebrew calendar days begin at sundown, so it joins the power of two days). Candles lit with intention at twilight right now are very powerful.
For my family, we have been battling all kinds of parasites this lunar cycle, along with experiencing great resolution. This has been physical, as well, as we've been struggling with bed bugs. I might think that I should fight my feelings of despair and fear of being eaten, but using the teaching of Goddard, imagining the sins as forgiven, I use the anxiety and fear to visualise being free of the parasite and free of the fear.
I post a link to the Neville Goddard teaching that inspired me. When he talks about Christ, he is referring to the spheirah chochmah. This is occult teachings of the gospels, not anything Christian, and as a Jewish kabbalist, it provided me with a crucial understanding of chochmah, the whole right column of the tree of life, the element of fire, and the masculine creative polarity (not gender). The most powerful thing somebody can do to change the world is to imagine it a different way. One can literally dream a new world, and it will come. But it must be imagined, and in imaging the world we want, the sins of this world are forgiven, all the horror of the world is forgiven through our imagination.
And I have been experienced horrendous gaslighting, so I know the difficulty in saying this, but it does not negate all of the pain. It just imagines something new for them because the left brain, the logic, the ego, is the power to sew the seeds for something different than what exists right now. This is what we do when we light the Chanukah lights. We are sewing seeds. So, when you light the candles, think or say what you want to be. Visualise it. Feel all the pain and suffering, do not suppress it, but imagine yourself free of it, while you are in its depths.
This is the secret of sepher Yonah (the book of Jonah). Yonah was not swallowed by the fish. Yonah's intention was to be swallowed by the fish, in order to descend to Sheoul because Sheoul is pure fertility. Chanukah is the darkest time, and so, it is the most fertile time.
